All American Reading Challenge

I was watching the morning show on TV today while eating breakfast in the school snack bar. A commercial came on for the "American Reading Challenge" sponsored by New 6 and McDonalds. If a kid reads 10 books in a month they get a FREE All American kids meal from McDonalds! Wow! "Thanks for reading, now here's your high fat convenience food!" I know that big corporations have been doing things like this for years, but I'm just now realizing how truly corrupting it is. I did "Book It" when I was Elementary School. That was the Pizza hut reading challenge. I remember lying about reading 10 books just so I could get free pizza. So, is this really encouraging the nation's children to read or is it encouraging them to lie in order to eat greasy, fatty food? What kind of imprints do programs like these put on children's lives? Why do the corporations do them? Good PR? Because they really want kids to read?? Hmmm... I think we ALL know the answer to that one!

I remember hot dog day, and since my name was at the bottom of the alphabet I always had to sit there STRAVING while the kids at the top of the alphabet were already eating there dogs.

Hey now, pizza is a real food, with most of the food groups represented, if you order it right. It is nutritious, so please don't compare it to McBarf's, lolol
